In Memory of Gregory T. Miller

"Greg"

January 12th, 1968 ~ August 4th, 1991

Greg was a truly special person and what I thought, an asset to this world.  He was very intelligent, brilliant, kind, warm hearted, thoughtful, ingenious, sensitive, active, and I can go on and on, there just isn’t enough I can say that will fully describe the beautiful person he was and how much he had to offer.

Greg graduated from North Haven High School in 1986, with honors. In 1990 he graduated from UCONN with two Bachelors, one in Electrical Engineering and the other in Mechanical Engineering.  He was in the process of pursuing his Masters.  He worked very hard and was dedicated to everything he did.

He took advantage of the joys life has to offer, as much as he could. He loved skiing, he tried sailing, he attempted parachuting, but the weather was bad so only went through the training and was scheduled to go back for the actual jump out of the plane, unfortunately, he never got that chance to go back.  He also had a trip to Europe planned with his friends for the summer of 1992, but never got the chance to fulfill that either

.

As much as he loved to pursue an active life, most weekends, were spent on trips home to help his father with his machining business. Something he didn't mind, because they were always concocting a new machine from parts of an older one and designing new ways of machining parts that no one else could figure out.  One Sunday, August 4th of 1991, he had worked a little later than usual to help get a job done before he headed back up to Massachusetts where he had lived.

On his way back to Mass that night, that’s when Greg’s blossoming and productive life came to a very short end because of some asshole’s carelessness.

As Greg was traveling I-691 West, a drunk driver was headed I-691 East.  Somewhere between Exits 4 and 6 (there’s no Exit 5), the drunken son of a bitch crossed the highway median and hit Greg head-on in the middle lane.  Greg died shortly after impact, probably didn’t even know what hit him, I can only hope.

I feel that I didn’t know my brother as well as I should have after he went off to college.  It is unfortunate that after we lost him that I regretted not spending more time with him or go up to visit him on the weekends as he often asked me to.  I was too busy with my own life to bother with my brother’s.  It taught me a valuable lesson in life, don’t ever take time with loved ones for granted. Get to know and appreciate the people in your life, you never know when they will be taken from you.
